MCR is required to conduct routine case completeness and data quality audits of Missouri hospitals once every five years. Hospitals are typically selected randomly for review but some special study audits may target specific facilities. When a hospital is due for an audit, they will be notified by letter and given specific instructions. Ample time will be provided for the entire process. Effective with 2008 audits, all data is to be submitted electronically.

The hospital’s role is kept to a minimum in the audit process and is limited to submission of the initial requested data and resolution of unmatched cases and abstracting discrepancies.

Confidentiality is a top priority of the Missouri Cancer Registry and all data provided for the audits are securely maintained. MCR’s confidentiality/privacy guidelines and the NAACCR description of our role as a public health entity with confidentiality provisions are available on our website.
